Lungu fires Musa Mwenye as Attorney General
President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has with immediate effect fired Musa Mwenye as Attorney-General.When President Michael Sata died in October 20, 2014, Mwenye opposed Lungu then who was Acting president to continue. He instead instructed that he hands over to Vice president Guy Scott.
In a press statement issued by his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, President Lungu said he his decision to fire Mwenye was pursuant to Article 54 (5) of the Constitution of Zambia. He thanked Mwenye for the services rendered to the nation.
Meanwhile President Lungu has appointed Major-General David Muma as Deputy Commander of the Zambia Airforce.
“In exercise of the powers vested in me pursuant to the provisions of Article 33(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia and the provisions of the Defence Act, I hereby promote you to the rank and status of Major-General and appoint you as Deputy Commander in the Zambia Airforce with immediate effect,” President Lungu said in a letter to Gen. Muma.
In another development, the President has revoked the nomination of Mr. Daniel Munkombwe as Member of Parliament and swore-in Mr. Nathaniel Mubukwanu as Provincial Minister to take over from Mr. Daniel Munkombwe.
The Head of State said this in Lusaka today when he swore-in Mr. Mubukwanu, Zambia’s High Commissioner to Namibia Ms. Sylvia Chalikosa and Mr. Hibeene Mwiinga as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Development Affairs.
The President stressed that he would want as much as possible to ensure that his advisory unit at State House and Cabinet were as tribally and gender- balanced as much as possible whilst maintaining merit as the overriding criteria.
The President explained that although he did not know Mr. Mwiinga personally, he was impressed by his qualifications and experience and therefore he deemed it fit to appoint him.
Meanwhile President Lungu has ordered Police to take action against anyone fomenting post-election violence. The President said no one must behave in a manner that may cause public disorder. He warned PF members to celebrate within acceptable limits and refrain from tempting the opposition to retaliation. The President has ordered all Patriotic Front cadres to effect stop attacking their UPND counterparts.
President Lungu directed the Inspector-General of Police Stella Libongani to take action against any form of violence regardless of who committed the offence.
President Lungu disclosed that he had received reports that some PF cadreswere attacking UPND cadres and warned that his administration will not condone violence.
He pointed out that it was unacceptable for PF cadres to continue victimising opposition cadres urged them to respect the rule of law and maintain law and order.
The President has noted that UPND Leader Mr. Hakainde Hichilema has been upright in the way his party has handled the loss of the presidential election.
And President Edgar Lungu has said that he is confident the people he has sworn in are competent and credible people appointed on merit.
President Lungu has urged party members and leaders to remain calm as he prepares to announce his full Cabinet when he returns from the African Union Summit in Ethiopia.The Head of State stated that he would re-appoint some ministers and bring in new ones ministers to help him achieve his vision of improving the welfare of Zambians.
